the Rethinking Everything Documentary
susan burke, filmmaker
Susan Burke is rethinking herself.
Big time.!
She is answering a long ignored inner calling to be more creative by stepping up and taking on the Rethinking Everything Documentary.
She is new to film making and is over the top excited to be a part of this collaborative project.! Spreading the message of living with freedom and how that relates to Rethinking Everything really resonates with her.
She wants to spread the word beyond the walls of the conference.! Susan, her soul mate Charlie and Lochlann, the love of their lives, live in a cool old house in Manchester, New Hampshire with their cat, Bast. Susan was raised in a traditional family, went through the public school system. She loved it but always felt she would need to come back and take other fun courses when she was done with the stuff she "had to do" to get into college.
Susan started off in a traditional 4 year nursing baccalaureate program but even then was finding the call to something more creative becoming harder and harder to squelch.
She remembers when she was a child and used to tell people she was going to be a writer. She remembers when she was in high school and deeply wanted to be in the art track and go to art school but was told she could never support herself that way. And so, she stayed in her college prep track, truly enjoying the sciences she excelled at.
Eventually her inner guidance system became impossible to ignore.
She began having great difficulty forcing herself to do the work necessary to complete the degree. She dropped out, and worked for a bit to try to get a hold on her life. Ha ha ha.! She forced herself to go back but this time to a diploma school of nursing, thinking it was all the theory and book work that were just not for her. She pushed her stubborn inner voice down deep and graduated, sat for the licensure boards and became a Registered Nurse, thinking that otherwise all the time she had spent studying this field would be wasted.
She has been an RN in various areas of nursing over the past 24 years. She has only ever really loved the creative part of it, like when she has had to MacGyver some essential medical equipment together to get it to fit a particular patient's needs. She has loved working in the ER, wound care, being a camp nurse, and her time as the charge nurse on a psychiatric intensive care unit.
She has become weary of the current allopathic healthcare system. She began rethinking herself in earnest when she left her first husband, her high school sweet heart, and took that first step toward becoming more herself. She eventually met a man 15 years younger. She happily ignored all the voices in her head, and friends' warnings that this coupling was just not right. She and Charlie have been married for 6 years.
She still works 24 hours a week as an RN and is stepping further and further away from that self with each heart beat. She wants your help with this dynamic film.! Susan needs people willing to speak about their experiences with freedom, what living with freedom looks like in their lives, and how Rethinking Everything provides a framework to experiment with freedom.
The film will be addressing the questions:
What is unschooling/open source learning/self design?
What are ways of being free in the world as a child, teen, young adult, adult?
How does unschooling play out in real life?
How are people creating nurturing environments at home to facilitate this type of living/learning?
How does unschooling manifest at RE within the unique framework provided to explore living with freedom?
What are the little kids thinking about RE?
What are the big kids thinking about RE?
What are the tweens and teens thinking about RE?
What are the young adults and adults thinking about RE?
You can lend her your thoughts without being filmed, just your voice would be recorded, you don't have to share your name if you would like to remain anonymous. You may also sit for an interview if you like and lend your visual self to the audio as well. She is looking for people of all ages. She is very interested in what the younger of us have to say!.
She is also looking for people willing to help her set up. She will be all over the place at the conference, filming the goings on. She is looking forward to sharing this collaborative project with you all!.
